Energy and System Size Dependence of Strangeness Production from SPS to RHIC
نویسنده
چکیده
Strange particle production is an important experimental observable that allows the study of the strongly interacting matter created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The STAR experiment at RHIC has a unique capability of measuring identified strange particles over a wide range of acceptance providing a rich set of data to perform a systematic study. In addition to the data from Au+Au collisions, strange particles from p+p and d+Au collisions are also available for comparison and normalization. A new set of data from Cu+Cu reactions at 62 GeV and 200 GeV provides the chance to compare the system size dependence observed in Au+Au collisions with this smaller system size. In addition to the comparison of the yields, a statistical thermal model was used to extract freeze-out characteristics for the different system sizes and collision energies.

The final state in heavy-ion collisions has a higher degree of strangeness saturation than the one produced in collisions between elementary particles like p − p or p − ¯ p. A systematic analysis of this phenomenon is made for C − C, Si − Si and P b − P b collisions at the CERN SPS collider and for Au − Au collisions at RHIC and at AGS energies. Strangeness saturation is shown to increase smoot...

We report on measurements of identified particle yields from Au-Au collisions at √ s N N = 62.4 GeV made with the BRAHMS spectrometer. Here we will concentrate on the charged K/π ratios as function of rapidity and baryo-chemical potential. We find that the K/π ratios measured at different rapidities in the analysed dataset have a common dependence with the same ratios measured in mid-rapidity a...
متن کاملStrangeness and Statistical Hadronization: How to Study Quark–Gluon Plasma
Statistical hadronization is presented as mechanism for (strange) particle production from a deconfined quark–gluon plasma (QGP) fireball. We first consider hadronic resonance production at RHIC as a test of the model. We present in detail how the hadrochemistry determines particle multiplicities and in case of sudden hadronization allows investigation of QGP properties. A comparative study of ...
متن کاملStrange Baryon Production From Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC
We will present a review of selected results on strange baryon production from nucleus-nucleus collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC. From the AGS and SPS heavy ion physics program several intriguing aspects: centrality dependence of strangeness production, anti-hyperon yield, hyperon production enhancement and baryon number transport will be highlighted. Our discussion on RHIC results will focus...
متن کاملSystem-size dependence of strangeness production in high-energy A+A collisions and percolation of strings
The CERN-NA49 Collaboration has recently published the yields of a series of strangeness-carrying particles (charged kaons,Λ, φ, in addition charged pions for normalization) in central C+C and Si+Si collisions at the top SPS energy ( √ sNN = 17.3 GeV) [1]. Together with earlier data for p+p, S+S and Pb+Pb the systematics of strangeness production as a function of the size of the collision syste...
